IN CHARACTER

Character Name: Kiara
Canon: The Lion King II: Simba's Pride
Canon Point: The morning after Kovu saves her

In-Game Tattoo Placement: Between her shoulders
Current Health/Status: Healthy
Age: 3 years old
Species: Lion

Content Warnings: None

History: Here.

Personality:

Kiara is the daughter of Simba and Nala, and the princess of the Pride Lands. She has a insatiable craving for adventure, which leads her to often disobeying and ignoring her parents' rules to seek excitement and adventure in dangerous places. She lives a very sheltered life, due to Simba being an overprotective father and constantly trying to watch over her. Kiara on the other hand, wants to be independent and find her own way instead.

One of the biggest problems with being a sheltered princess is that Kiara doesn't really take any of her father's warnings all that seriously. When Simba tells her about the dangers of Pride Lands, she rolls her eyes and repeats them back at him, implying she's heard them dozens of times. However, the moment Simba lets her go play on her own, Kiara goes off to explore the Outlands despite Simba telling her to stay near Pride Rock. Even with Timon and Pumbaa trying to stop her from wandering off, she waits until they start arguing among themselves to slip away and explore the Outlands on her own.

While Kiara is a little judgmental at first, due to the common knowledge that dangerous exiled lions live outside the Pride Lands, she easily puts that aside when she meets Kovu, a lion cub living in the Outlands. While cautious and guarded around him at first, he mocks her and tells her that Outlanders can do whatever they want and take care of themselves. Kiara seems to admire Kovu's independence. Not enough to run off and become an Outlander herself, but she likes Kovu's "rule-free" lifestyle of just getting to be himself.

Kiara on the other hand, hates that being a "princess" seems to entirely define who she is and that her future is already decided for her. She protests to Timon and Pumbaa that being a princess is only half of who she is, though when they question her about her other half, she doesn't have an answer. When Simba lectures her about her role as future queen, she gets angry and asks "what if I don't want to be queen?". Kiara desperately wants to explore her own individuality, and feels like her role of future queen takes that away from her. Unlike Simba, who once saw his role of future king as unlimited freedom, Kiara sees it as more of a restriction. Of course, with Simba being so afraid to let her out of his sight, it's easy for her to feel this way.

Kovu on the other hand, treats her like a Pridelander, but not a princess. Kovu is also the first cub Kiara’s met that she can play and have her first real adventure with, which is something she does not get with her family. Just like how Kovu doesn't define Kiara as a princess, she doesn't define Kovu as just some outsider. After working together to escape from crocodiles, she laughs and talks up what a great team they are, and even tries to get him to play tag with her. Even though their playtime is cut short by Kovu and Kiara's parents showing up and separating them, Kiara still ends up remembering Kovu years later and is pleased to see him again.

During Kiara and Kovu's daring escape from crocodiles is where Kiara's bravery really shines through. While she can be a little bit of a scaredy-cat herself at times, she's reliable when it’s needed. When Kovu gets himself cornered while trying to lure the crocodiles away from Kiara, she jumps on one of their heads to help Kovu escape. She even tries to swat one away that was trying to climb up a branch she was clinging to, right before Kovu attempts to save her from them.

Overall, Kiara's still very young, playful, and very energetic. She sometimes thinks that she knows better than her parents, even when that often gets her in trouble. Most of all, she just wants to find out who she really is, beyond just being the "future Queen". And despite her dissatisfaction with her father's rules and her place in the Circle of Life, Kiara really does love her father. She affectionately rubs against him, and when he scolds her for going to the Outlands, she seems ashamed that she upset him. Even when they disagree, Simba is always a guiding figure in her life.

Abilities/Powers/Weaknesses & Warping: No powers. She's a talking lion.
Inventory: Nothing.

Writing Samples: TDM post

So this is one big dream? Kiara had no idea she could dream up something this... exciting! And weird! But mostly exciting!

All around her were caves unlike anything she's ever seen before. There had to be hundreds of caves with weird shapes. This was her first time away from home, and even if it’s a dream she loved it. Especially since her dream involved Kovu, the lion cub who lived in the Outlands. And in Kiara’s opinion, her new best friend. She didn’t know any cubs her own age.

At least in this strange world, they could get to know each other better. She knows her dad thinks all Outlanders were bad and that she should stay away from them, but Kovu wasn’t like that! He was... well not nice, but he was brave, and he did try to help her escape from those crocodiles.

So she doesn’t know what her dad is talking about when he says Outlanders were all bad - well Kovu’s mom seemed kind of scary, but she was probably nice too!

At least she’d get to find out for herself. She breaks into a run, trying to get a good layout - if she was gonna be stuck in this dream, she better know what kind of dream she’s stuck in!

⌈ SAMPLE SECTION ⌉

General Sample: Kiara on the TDM.

Emotion Sample:

This is prompt F-2 from Emp's January test drive meme:

Kiara is unhappy.

Maybe it's the melted snow around her, and only around her. Maybe it's the fact that the child-sized costume the snowmen actors stuffed her in is currently sitting in a puddle of icy water. She's completely stiff, her lips curved in a deep, angry frown.

Lions don't wear costumes. Lions don't wear - whatever this is supposed to be!

She wiggles a little, but the costume fails to come off. She tries to bite at it, but she just spins in a circle. At the very least, she manages to get one leg out, but that's as far as she gets. The fabric feels weird, unnatural, and baggy. After all, no one thought to make a lion-sized costume. It doesn't help that this weather is already so cold and miserable. When it first started snowing, it was so new and fascinating to her. Fun to play in, too. But after the first few snow angel lions, the cold was getting under her fur. She wanted to curl up somewhere warm, not do... whatever she as supposed to be doing in the next few minutes. Something about history.

Like she's gonna stick around for something boring like that! She gives the costume another tug, and after a brief fight with it, winds up somehow tugging it over her eyes.

... She may need some help with her escape plan.
